Oh! I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

Shot of the Day
 Yellowcraigs East Lothian

My mid term holiday finished on a good note over the weekend. On Friday afternoon I went with Tootlepedal to our favourite riverside walk near Irving House. The bird life we were expecting to see didn't materialise but the scenery and peacefulness made up for it.
Tootlepedal searches in vain for any sign of bird life

I did manage to catch sight of........
.......an Oyster Catcher
 ........a Buzzard
........and a Dipper

This Copper Beach tree stands out against the green foliage

At night I met George and Linda Laidlaw for a nice meal in the Eskdale Hotel then we went to the Buccleuch Centre to see a concert by Woody Pines. They played some very lively rock a billy music without being too loud.

On Saturday I travelled to Haddington to visit the Gill family. This coincided with the local gala day so we took a walk down the river Tyne which flows through the town and passes the rugby club where the gala was being held. This by the way is my second favourite riverside walk. It was a very busy affair with something to entertain everyone.

I managed to get a shot of this Heron before it flew off

All the fun of the fair

The crowd were entertained by a chainsaw sculpture and coincidently it was the same gentleman that entertained us at Canonbie Show last year

On Sunday a picnic was made up and we headed for the beach at Yellowcraigs but before that we paid a visit to the Sunday market at East Fortune where you can buy almost anything.

We purchased some crisps, drinks and some fresh cherries then headed off to the beach. Joe and Sandy were keen to start exploring but Dad we should get a nice spot near the beach and have some lunch before we did any exploring. Sandy is such a live wire he spent most of the time eating his sandwiches running up and down the dunes.

Lunch finished, we headed for some rock pools to explore

Neil suggested this could have had a part in the film Alien

After spending a few delightful hours with Neil, Joe & Sandy it was time to head back to Haddington and it was time for me to set off home to Langholm.

  1. Great picture of the Bass Rock. You seem to have had a good couple of days.

  2. It's good to hear that kids are kids no matter where they live. I love the shot of the day and as usual your river walk produced some fine photos of beautiful scenery.

  3. My grandchildren live in a very beautiful part of Scotland, it's always a pleasure to visit.

  4. Nothing nicer than an afternoon exploring the sea shore with your grandchildren. My American grandchildren have just left to go back to California and the house is now so quiet.
