Doing the Mileage

My intention today, was to up my ebike mileage to over 100 which I duly did. After a breakfast of porridge and doing some household chores I set off. I hadn't gone two miles when I got caught in quite a heavy shower and quickly had to stop and put my rain jacket on. Taking the chance that this was an isolated shower I cycled on up the Wauchope road and towards Canonbie.

My route took me past Tomshielburn where my friends Jenny and Nigel live. Luckily they were at home and supplied me with a welcome cup of tea and a slice of carrot cake. Nigel accompanied me for the rest of  my journey coming via Claygate and Tarras. The ebike coped very well with the steep incline out of the Tarras gorge.

I was a bit concerned cycling on the A7 from the Skipper's Bridge into town but it wasn't so bad and gave me some confidence. We parted at Buccleuch Square and Nigel headed home up the Wauchope road.

When I got home I was delighted to have done 20 miles which took my total to 110 miles. Having some company makes a difference and encourages you to go that extra mile.

I didn't intend this to be a photographic journey so I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures and lack of subjects as most are shots from the bike I was pedaling, maybe not the safest thing to be doing.

I set off with four bars  out of five showing on the battery and was down to one when I got home. I thought three bars over 20 miles was a bit high so  maybe I need to be more economical with my cycling style but I'm still on a learning curve.

I spent the rest of the afternoon cutting the front lawn and sorting out much needed paperwork.

  1. Maybe you only had a little bit of the fourth bar left when you set out and maybe you had all of the one bar left when you finished. Well done on your century.

  3. Hi there! Would your friends have any knowledge of the Dixons who lived there in the 19th century? ☺️ Thanks, (a descendent of them) Brent Dickson
