Print of the Year

Print of the Year
Just in case anyone missed my winning print from previous posts.

On Monday night I went to Liddesdale Camera Club with Tootlepedal for the annual Digital Image and Print of the year competition which was also the last meeting of the season. I was absolutely delighted when my print "Somewhere Under the Rainbow" won print of the year. This is the print that received highly commended at a recent competition at Selkirk recently.

Over the season I have learned so much, especially how hard it is to get something that is slightly different but staying in the traditions of photography. On a recent visit to Dumfries to see Dumfries Camera Clubs annual exhibition so many were very heavily manipulated, no doubt with a high degree of skill but surely there must come a time when the competition organisers must somehow differentiate between a traditional image and a manipulated image.

The above print was taken on a mobile phone and lightly processed via Photoshop to give it a grainy effect, yet the judge questioned if it had been painstakingly produced from a variety of images.  It was a shot taken at an opportune moment with the only camera I had at hand and it worked.

  1. Congratulations! You're competing in an area that's such an odd blend of art and technology, it must be hard to see the line between the two - especially as the technology changes at warp speed.

Do you get to keep the cup?

  6. Well done Sandy. I always felt that my mobile phone took photos that were rather inferior but you have dissproved this theory and I will use it more often now and especially for that opportune moment when you dont have your better camera to hand.
Hope you win again next year.

  7. Thanks Gavin for your kind comments.
I must admit I feel rather smug winning print of the year taken on a mobile phone but it proves an expensive camera doesn't always produce the best results.
